Why it exists
Legal tech is full of walled gardens — per-seat pricing, cloud-by-default, formats you can't open without the vendor's blessing. The people who actually produce the record end up renting access to their own work.
DepoStack is the opposite bet: independent software built for that audience, not extracted from it. It's the company name on the night work — where the tools I wished existed get built and shipped.

The principles
Vendor-neutral: nothing here locks you into a single ecosystem or holds your files hostage. On-device by default: sensitive legal material stays on your machine unless there's a real reason it shouldn't. Pro-first: built for the professionals who produce the record, at the standard their work demands.
Free where it should be free, and commercial products held to exactly the same bar. The price model changes; the principles don't.

What's under it
DepoAudio is the shipped one — a free, open-source desktop app that frees court recordings from proprietary formats, entirely on-device. CasePrompts is the next one, in preview — free, copy-ready AI prompts for litigation, built on the CITE method.
Both are the same idea in different shapes: give the people who make the record tools that respect the record.

DepoStack is in early access and building in the open. New tools and updates ship continuously rather than disappearing behind a big-bang launch — the work is visible as it happens.
It's a long game: earn trust by shipping useful, honest software for a field that's been underserved by everyone treating it as an afterthought.
